Romanticism

1. Write a 2-3 paragraph response to the story you chose. Please be sure to focus more on your feelings about the story than simply summarizing what happens.
At first I wasn't all into the story like that, but as I started to read,I found out that the story was very intersting.I'm a person who just don't like reading because I'm not that good of a reader. "Rip Van Winkle" was intersting because you really had to use your imgination to see how the story was written.Even though pictures was use to help you see the story, but it took all of you thoughts and imgination just too see the full story. That's the most important thing in life, for someone to see a story by using their imgination.I never thought that a story could take someone's full thoughts and mind to come up with a story in your head.I see why people use their minds over logic.

2. What about the story did you find particularly Romantic? You may want to reread the section on Romanticism again to refresh your memory. Give at least two examples with direct evidence for each.
In the story "Rip Van Winkle", the thing that I found that was Romanticism. Rip Van Winlke was a lazy old man who never did his chores at home, but he did them for other women. His wife Dame Van Winkle would always nag at Rip Van Winkle about his dog Wolf and about him doing his chores for other women. He would never do his chorse at home and that made his wife mad.One day he got tired of her nagging,he and his dog Wolf went for a walk in the woods,in the woods Rip Van Winkle met a trole who was carrying some liquor. After they drank Rip Van Winkle felled asleep, and when he awoken it was early in the morning, the birds were singing, and the sun was shinning brightly. Rip thought to himself, "what excuse shall I make to Dame Van Winkle".Not knowing that he has been asleep for twenty years. That's what I found most Romanticism about the story. You use your imgination to see how the story was written.

3. Read “Thanatopsis” here. Then write a summary of what you think this poem is saying. What is Romantic about this poem?
"Go forth under the open sky, and list To Nature's teachings, while from all around-- Earth and her waters, and the depths of air,-- Comes a still voice--".Instead of thinking about death in a bad way, here's another you can think about it.Romantics used their imginations to see death as a good thing. They see death as nature, when you die,you will become apart of nature. When you start thinking about death, take some time to yourself, listen to nature.Even though you can't really here voices, the sounds around you will speak to you.By the Romanticism using their imgination, they made the worse thing in the world seem to be the best thing in the world.

4. Read “The Ropewalk” by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow here. What is the point of this poem? What images stand out to you? How is “The Ropewalk” a good example of Romanticism?
The poem is saying that there is a man who work in a building that makes ropes.Making ropes by hand is very boring. In order for the man to keep his mind on his work, he comes up with different ways how people use a rope and makes stories out of them."And a girl poised high in air On a cord, in spangled dress,".Here he's talking about a little girl who is swinging on a swing and the other girl is braiding her hair."Then a school-boy, with his kiteGleaming in a sky of light,".In this line he's talking about a little boy who's flying his kite after school. How this is Romanticism, the ropemaker is coming up with all these different stories about rope to make his job more fun. He's using his imgination to help him create fun stories so that his job won't seem boring.

5. Look at this painting. How could a piece of visual art like this be considered Romanticism? When you are through responding, upload an image to your post that you consider a good example of Romanticism, and then explain why you chose it. HINT: don’t fall into the present-day definition of “romantic”.
When I look at this painting the first thing that comes to my mind is a little girl and father. The little girl's father brought her to his favorite spot when he was a child. The both of them are looking at the deer, antalopes, and the rest of nature that's around them. It's peaceful and relaxing a time for a dather and daughter to spend time together, for that little girl to know that her father will always be there for her no matter what. Like me I never had a father to take me somewhere like that and when I thought I had a father he was just another lie. When I see a painting like this it's makes me think of my past.

The reason I have always like this painting, because when I look at it,I don't see that much good.I look at and see a village that's being punished by God for disobeying Him.This is suppose to be one of God's loyal people, but the people have turn their backs on God and now He's going to punish them.He sent fireballs to destroy their homes,He doesn't mean to hurt them,He's just punishing them for what they did.Everytime I look at this painting that's the story I have always told myself ever since I was little. That's one of the reasons I don't go to church and follow God,because I know for a fact I'll turn my back on Him.I don't want Him to make my family suffer because of me.That's why I say I don't go to church,I don't ask God for anything, because if I do and I make Him mad. He'll make me pay hard.By getting to me,He'll go for the one thing that He knows will kill me.That's my family.

You should add your response in number one. You also need some direct evidence from Rip Van Winkle in number two.

You should also go through and proofread your work once more. You have a few spelling and gramatical errors.

I really liked your explaination of the two paintings. I think those two responses were some of the best work you have ever done.

Make the adjustments I mention above, and then leave me another comment to let me know you are finished.

thanks.
